It has been such a fantastic whirlwind since my memoir has been released. I have met so many wonderful people and heard amazing stories of people who have inspired me with their life journey.
I have thought about this old proverb from time to time in my life and often wished it came with a “recipe.” Sometimes, life gives us lemons and either squeezes everything out of us, immobilizes us, or turns us around in a new direction. They say, there is a rainbow waiting and a silver lining behind the clouds, however, the stories along the way are often missing.
Just how do you make lemonade out of lemons, how do you get to the silver lining, and see the rainbow? How do we get the courage to get up and go again?
We often hear about tragedy, loss, devastation, hardships, and illness, and we also hear resounding testimonials, whether through positive motivation, religion, or just moments in time.
But how do we have a cheerful outlook when our world seems to be crashing or we experience hardship? How do we use challenges in our lives to better ourselves and our future and sustain life in the short term?
I think it’s easier said than done when you walk into work and find out you no longer have a job, you’re given devastating news from your doctor, you don’t have the finances to pay the bills, or you find yourself going through the loss of a relationship or any given hardship.
How do you get back up? Well, my friend, I am here to tell you, you can. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow, but I want to encourage you to look at what options you do have and begin to put your focus on solutions. I think that is how we make lemonade. Sometimes, life gives us lemons, and times of rest are vital, however, in time, you will rise, and realize you are resilient, you can get through challenging times and reach for the silver lining in your life.
I do believe what we focus on in our lives is the secret to success. I have always been a glass-full kind of person, which has served me well throughout my career. When someone gives me a negative or a problem, I focus on giving them a positive in return or asking them what their solutions and options are. It sustains me, it works, and besides, lemons are sour.
Life is a journey, and there is hope for a brighter tomorrow.
So today, go out and make lemonade.
Until next time – read, write, and learn…. J
